Dragon Maze Initial Overview

Its a rare occasion that I get excited for a game release, it is even rarer for that excitement to come from a platformer game, and its unheard of for all of this anticipation to come from an Android project. Developer Feline Arts is hard at work to bring their newest IP, Dragon Maze to the OUYA game console.

Dragon Maze follows the adventures of an adorable dragon on his way to recover his stolen treasure from the diabolical Claw Gang. Using its unique dashing and smashing abilities, it is up to you to stop them and get it back.  I know the game comes across as a relatively G rated affair, its the game play footage (seen below) that has me excited for the release.

The games features 6 unique environments from volcanoes to mine caverns. To navigate these dungeons requires a level of quickness and finesse that reminds me of something you would find in early Legend of Zelda games.  Its simple, when you take damage you lose a heart, when you lose all of your hearts, game over. The levels include perilous pitfalls, a wide variety of hazards, and complex puzzles, this promises the expected hours of frustration and enjoyment that come from a solid platforming title.

Perhaps the most important thing that draws me to this title would have to be the level of interaction from the development studio and the players. From their YouTube channel, to their website, to their Facebook page, they are always listening to feedback and take the time to interact with every fan that has a question or expresses interest in their title. It is rare you see developers so open and interactive but that is what we are beginning to expect and love about the indie devs on Ouya.

The project was originally an indoegogo campaign that failed to meet its goals (insane) so now its exact future is uncertain. The developers have continued to work on the project and are working toward their Ouya public launch. While the Ouya requires all games to feature some free content, the full version of the game is expected to retail for $5. There are also plans to release the title on Steam and then later to the Google Play and Apple App stores.
